Vanaf deze week een nieuwe rubriek in het ACN. Elke week stelt onze Club Umpire Jake, die nog graag even anoniem wil blijven, een aantal vragen, Weet jij het antwoord?
The captain of the fielding site has his 15 year old son acting as a sub, and fielding at long on. Before the bowler (Stan) starts making his run he has a word with the boy: “Come in quietly to mid on and then run forward to forward short leg just before Stan reaches the crease, he’ll slip in a fast short ball and you should be able to get the catch”. All was well and when Stan was a stride away from the stumps the umpire called: “No ball”. The ball pitched outside the off peg and was taken by the wicket keeper. Square leg fielder asked the square leg umpire whether his colleague was right. “Yes” said the umpire “for two reasons”:
Questions:
- Was the umpire correct?
- Whether, he was or not, what were the two reasons he mentioned?
- What should the scorer have put on the score-card?
- What would you have been given had you been the umpire at the bowler’s end?
Replies should be sent to jake@e-coustics.co.uk. A selection of the best replies will be published every week.
